2010: The Trail Ahead
The vision of a regional trail system is just beginning. We’ve built momentum, but now have many more kilometres to travel together.
Your donation ensures we move forward in 2010 to:
• design and build new trails
• take care of the trails we have
• add new signs to local trails
• expand our web, print, and map guides
• support and train new volunteers
• implement environmental trail monitoring
• develop new tourism strategies
• create economic opportunity and jobs
• grow new partnerships with First Nations and local government
Creating Economic Advantage with Trails and Greenways
Did you know:
Surrey, BC, determined that adding greenways incresaed nearby property values by over $4000 (2.8%) on average, and as high as $15,000 when the greenway included a pathway. (SPRC, 2001)
A study of trail use in Nova Scotia revealed the average spending per party who travelled from outside the province was $1,210, with a cumulative provincial impact of $79.4 million. (NSDEDT, 1999)
Trail systems on the North Shore, Squamish, and Whistler were recently shown to collectively generate $10.3 million in non-resident spending during the summer. (MBTA, 2007)

The Shuswap Trail Alliance has partnered with the Shuswap Community Foundation to ensure resources are available to maintain local trails for generations to come. Members play a vital role in getting word out to the community on initiatives like this.
