2009 Fall Shuswap Hiking Series
The Shuswap Hospice Society, the Shuswap Trail Alliance, and Salmon Arm Recreation are pleased to profile new hiking routes in the Shuswap.
- Start times are Absolute Finish times are Approximate!!
- All hikes are “weather permitting” Sorry: no dogs.
- Join us in the outdoors for some “natural healing” and enjoyable, friendly hiking, and help us raise
- funds for the Shuswap Hospice Society
COST: Each hike will cost $10.00 per person or $25.00 per family
This will cover the cost of insurance with the rest of the contribution going to provide funding support for the Shuswap Hospice Society.

BRING: Bring appropriate gear for cold and/or wet weather (including a toque!), good (comfortable) walking shoes, food/snacks, water and day pack.
1. Balmoral to White Lake Trail (South Shuswap)
The region’s newest trail immerses travellers in the tranquility of the forest between Blind Bay and White Lake, with a dramatic viewpoint overlooking the Tappen Valley halfway.
Date: Saturday, September 19th, 2009 Duration: 4 + hours: 9:00 am to 2:00 pm (bring a lunch) Difficulty: intermediate, 7 km MEET: This trail includes a shuttle: meet at the White Lake Bike Park at 9:00 am (north side
of White Lake Road just before the junction with Parri Road) A shuttle will be set-up
with the Balmoral trailhead. Or to carpool, meet at the Salmon Arm Rec Centre
parking lot at 8:30 am
2. Friday Evening Walk on the new Park Hill Trails (Salmon Arm) with Salmon Arm Greenways
An evening stroll to explore the new Park Hill Trail system above Canoe Beach in Salmon Arm
Date: Friday Evening September 25th, 2009 Duration: 2 hrs 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm (bring a headlamp or flashlight for dusk walking) Difficulty: easy/intermediate MEET:at the Canoe Beach Parking Lot, Salmon Arm, at 6:00 pm (east side of the Water Treatment Plant, by the walkway tunnel under the railway)
3. Hyde Mountain Lookout (Sicamous/East Shuswap) with guest host Lori Schneider Wood
Forest hike up to east Larch Hills and spectacular views of south Mara Lake above Hyde Mountain.
Date: Saturday, October 3rd, 2009 Duration: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm (bring a lunch) Difficulty: intermediate/advanced, 14 km MEET:at the Sicamous Visitor Centre parking lot at 9:00 am, or Salmon Arm Rec Centre parking lot for carpooling at 8:30 am
4. Scatchard Mountain Switchbacks (Chase/West Shuswap) with guest host and historian David Lepsoe
A walk into history up the old switchback trail above Chase to views over the South Thompson Valley.
Date: Saturday, October 17th, 2008 Duration: 3 + Hours: 9:30 am to 1:00 pm Difficulty: easy/intermediate MEET:at the cemetery trailhead on southside of Hwy 1 by Argo Hwy Yard across from the middle entrance to Chase at 9:30 am, or Salmon Arm Rec Centre parking lot for carpooling at 8:45 am
