Fundraising
Like any major undertaking, a source of funding is required
to make it happen. Much of the work that has been done so far on the
Trail Initiative has been in-kind, or grants from economic development
sources. While grants can be a viable means to acquire funding, it can
be very time consuming and limited in scope.
The choices
for making the Shuswap Trail Initiative happen are:
a) Develop
the trail and infrastructure through volunteer and in-kind contributions
over the next ten to fifteen years.
b) Seek
out funding from government and private sources and develop the trail
in five years.
c) A hybrid
of 'a' and 'b' where trail is developed as funding becomes available.
The trail
committee currently favours option 'b' as it sees a completed trail
in five years, with smaller sections usable in a year or two. This is
where we need your help. Private cash or in-kind donations will help
us get started sooner than later, and will also help us secure matching
grants from the government.
